The Committee meets as necessary following the Open Meeting Laws.
The council’s main purpose is to oversee funds provided by the state through the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC).
The members meet once a year to review and vote on applications from parties interested in providing projects which promote and educate local communities and schools in the arts, humanities and sciences. Other meetings are held as needed.
The Chairperson maintains all paperwork on grants. Payouts, (which require 2 signatures, usually the chair and treasurer) are recorded by the council Treasurer and then submitted to the Town Accountant for payment. Past years grant records are kept in the Town Clerk’s office. An annual report is made to the state (MCC) usually by October 15th. Included in the report is a verified financial form from the Town Accountant.
